Helping Others

1/5/14 Yesterday, after church, I went to Trader Joe's, where I met these people. I'm trying to help them. The father needs a job. Contact me if you can help :)

For there will never cease to be poor in the land... You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.

One Love

Love has hands to help others. It has feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. This is what love looks like. St.Augustine

     Greetings! I am Hanne. I’m just an average teenager with BIG dreams. I’ve always wanted to help the needy and the homeless people, feed them, provide them shelter and needs, and give them home by welcoming them into God’s family. I thought I could only achieve these by going to med school, by studying hard, and by being successful in my profession. I realized I was wrong. I’ll start out small. I’ll start right here, and right now. I am young and obscure, I know. I can’t open a single shelter or an orphanage. If we unite, we’ll be able to make this possible! As disciples of Christ we are a team, building the kingdom of God. We are in this together! For months, I’ve been thinking about the needy and homeless people around me instead of thinking about my life, my future, and my problems. They are hurting and struggling every second and ever moment, yet all I do is sit in my car with so much pity, hoping I could be of any help. Yet again, I am helpless! Now I think it’s time to act instead of just sit here, wishing and thinking. l want to see even a little satisfaction on their faces, a little hope in their eyes...

     Everyone is too busy with their own lives. They go about their day often without thinking of other people. It is a busy world, but take a moment to stop. Try to be detached from the things of this world. Open thy eyes and see the world. Look around you. Listen with your ears and eyes wide open. Do you like what you see? Do you like how the noise of this busy world mutes the cries of the needy? Now, do not only open your eyes to see but also feel with your heart. What if they’re calling out loud, screaming their hearts out, reaching out for help, yet not a single ear cares to listen, not a single soul comforts them or reaches out and gives them what they need? What if you were in their place, how would that feel? Some may say, “Oh, they’re just faking.” Does it really matter? If you saw someone suffering, would you say, “Let him suffer”? One little act of kindness can ripple out in countless ways you may never know about. Besides, we should never assume anything for we do not know where they’ve been or what brought them to their current condition. Charity works aren’t really enough, are they? They only treat the symptoms of man’s misery. We all are human beings and have the need for the same basic elements: food, water, shelter and most of all LOVE.  


     Love is like the air we breathe. It may not always be seen, but it is always felt, used and needed. Like an overflowing cup, when we are filled with so much love, all we want to do is to share and to spread the love we have inside that God has blessed us with. You can only give away what you have but if you don’t have love, you don’t have to give it. It’s not really the matter of giving, is it? It’s a matter of sharing because love shares. In fact, you still get to keep it and you will never lose it. Love is always open arms. If you close your arms about love, you will find that you are left holding only yourself. Open them wide! Love more and make these lonely people feel loved by helping them, by showing them we care, by giving them hope, and by giving them joy, for creating joy is one of the responsibilities of love.



     We are saved to serve! Everyone needs to be noticed, to be wanted, to be needed and to be significant to others. We need to build our lives into theirs by reaching out to them and by responding to their needs. I am certain that we will have great impact on them through touching their lives and through a close relationship because you can never impress them from a distance. Love is empathetic. Let us accept them and understand them. It is this empathy that makes us responsible in love to all men. A follower of God cultivates compassion and empathy. He tries to always be considerate and helpful. I assure you that when you give love, you feel love as you do! Let’s show them love by spending time with them and by serving them. Serving others is an essential part of effectively communicating the Gospel. It is love in action. With our help, not only can we help them survive and improve their situation, but we can also influence them as well and lead them to the Light when they see the Light in us, and they will know that there is a God out there that truly loves cares for them.
Friendship is the primary vehicle for bringing the good news about Christ to people, and for bringing people to Christ.
We are to develop friendships and sow God into those relationships for the ultimate purpose of telling them about Christ and bringing them into the congregation as a new believer because the only way to truly help poor people is not by satisfying their temporary needs monetarily, but rather by providing them with lasting opportunities to change their life and situation. “Give man a fish and feed him for a day, teach man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.” 
There is so much true wealth to be found in helping the lives of the needy and it is not a matter of charity, but of our duty and their rights. The world will only be a better place to live in when we’re better people. So, help me with this. It could change their life forever. You'll be surprised how good it’s gonna feel. The greatest joy is being used by God and nothing else in all the earth compares to it. Let’s unite to help the world. The kingdom of God is within you! :)

     This is for my love for Our King and Lord Jesus. Lord I am doing this work for you. I know I am powerless and an eloquent speaker but I believe I can do everything through you because your strength is made perfect in my weakness.  


We are all functioning at a small fraction of our capacity to live fully in it’s total meaning of loving, caring, creating and adventuring. Consequently, the actualizing of our potential can become the most exciting adventure of our lifetime. (Otto)
